Provenance:
Photocopied excerpt from the "Randolph Braham collection : Hungarian records relating to the Holocaust [microform], 1944" (USHMM Archives RG-52.001M, Acc. 1997.A.0294). During the 1960s, the Central Office of the Hungarian Jewish Community (Magyar Izraelit ák Országos Képviselete [literally: "National Representation of Hungarian Israelites"]) collected, and in cooperation with the National Archives of Hungary, microfilmed documents that concerned the fate of Hungarian Jews during 1944. The Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany financed the project. Hungarian historian and archivist, Elek Karsai (1922-1986), served as project director. The collection was titled the "I-sorozat" (I-series), and it is known by most of the researchers by that title. The survey involved archives throughout the country. The materials from the various archives were moved to Budapest, Hungary, where the microfilming process took place. The organizational principle is not known; but the donors assumption is that no arranging was done in Budapest and that the documents were filmed in order of reception. Professor Randolph L. Braham purchased a copy of the film reels and a photocopy of the index for his unrestricted use from the National Archives of Hungary in 1984. The copy belonging to Prof. Braham was duplicated in 1986, and he provided copies to YIVO, Yad Vashem, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Randolph Braham donated his collection to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives in 14 installments between 1992 and 2005. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the microfilm collection from Randolph L. Braham in 1992.

Abstract:
This typewritten list preceded by 2 leaves of handwritten notations and a signed typewritten cover letter dated 8 April 1944 consists of approximately 400 names of Jews from the city of Mosonmagyaróvár (located in current-day Györ-Moson-Sopron County in northwestern Hungary; in 1939 the towns of Moson and Magyarovar were united to form the city of Mosonmagyaróvár). Columnar entries include full name (i.e. "Név") , the maiden name of the mother of each person (i.e. "Anyja neve") and local address (i.e. "Lakás" or "Lakhely"). Although the ultimate fate of those listed is not given, it is known that in April of 1944 all the Jews of Mosonmagyarovar were expelled and transferred to the ghetto of Györ from which location deportations to Auschwitz began on June 11, 1944. It may therefore be presumed that all or nearly all of those listed were deported to Auschwitz/Birkenau in June 1944.
