Abstract:
Although the records of the German Consulate of Palestine now held by the Israel State Archives in Jerusalem goes back to 1842, much of the material covers the immediate pre-War years 1933-1939. The collection consists of 49 linear meters of material (400,000 pages) and as of November 2006 is being reproduced in its entirety by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum's International Archival Programs Division (IAPD). Holocaust-relevant records consist of German and Austrian refugees who gave up their citizenship after reaching Palestine. The names database for this collection was commissioned in 2002 by the International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims. It has 11,250 names. Entry points are: running number, last name, first name, maiden name, birth date, town of origin, and collection/file number.
