Notes:
The name of the office that generated the names is not provided on the list.
The list contains name, birthdate and -place, occupation, prisoner number, and handwritten notations about status.
Two prisoner numbers appear next to each prisoner's demographic information. According to Hans Marszalek's _Die Geschichte des Konzentrationslagers Mauthausen: Dokumentation (Vienna, 1980, 2nd ed.), p. 121, the highest prisoner number issued in Mauthausen in 1940 was 4600 and 6500 for Gusen. This would suggest that the first number given is the new Mauthausen (or Gusen) number assigned to prisoners. (I have thus chosen to enter the number range from the first numbers in our database.)
Quite a few of these prisoners have "Geistl." listed as their occupation (= clergy or priests, etc.). Many are also teachers.
Many names are crossed out and marked "G" or "D." The prisoners who died (I have counted them in the overall "Number of persons") are marked separately with a small cross and date.
Somewhat similarly, the prisoners who were released (Ent., entlassen) are marked with a date of the release.
