Abstract:
"After several years of work, the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum has made part of its archival materials available on the internet: the 46 volumes of the so-called Sterbebücher, or Death Books, in which the camp Political Department (Politische Abteilung), in other words, the Gestapo, recorded the deaths of nearly 69,000 registered camp prisoners who died between July 29, 1941, and December 31, 1943. Their names have been entered in a data base (for the time being accessible only in Polish)."--http://www.auschwitz.org.pl/html/eng/aktualnosci/news_big.php?id=552 [defunct as of 2017]

- According to memorial site spokesperson Jaroslaw Mensfelt quoted in the Austrian news service Der Standard online at http://derstandard.at/?id=1350564, the memorial site is planning to place additional name-relevant information from its archives on the website, such as: the so-called "Zigeunerbuecher" (Sinti and Roma [i.e. "Gypsy"] books), the death books of Soviet POWs, and the so-called "Bunkerbuecher" with the names of prisoners in the "Todesblock" (Death Block).
