List, dated 6 Jul 1944, of 281 Jews who 'went from Celle to Palestine.' These are ostensibly Jews who were freed and allowed to leave (ID: 30909)

Authorship or Source:
Joods Historisch Museum (Amsterdam, Netherlands)
Title or Main Description:
List, dated 6 Jul 1944, of 281 Jews who 'went from Celle to Palestine.' These are ostensibly Jews who were freed and allowed to leave for Palestine in exchange for the British freeing Germans living in Palestine. Entries include birth date and place (n.b. This list needs to be researched further. According to THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE HOLOCAUST, p. 457, and FROM BERGEN BELSEN TO FREEDOM, p. 25, a total of 283 Jews were released in June of 1944 and allowed to go to Palestine: 222 from Bergen-Belsen and 61 from the Vittel camp in France. Need to resolve the discrepancy in numbers.) [See also source AA0388.]
