[Applications for placement in various care facilities] (ID: 27575)

Description:
This grouping contains applications for placement in various care facilities run by the Judenrat in Łódź. These facilities included, but not limited to, a sanatorium, a temporary homeless shelter, and homes for the disabled and for deaf mutes. Most of the applications include correspondence written by the applicant, or a family member, to Der Aelteste der Juden in Litzmannstadt requesting that they be placed into one of those facilities. Many of the applicants were unable to support themselves or could no longer care for their disabled family members. The applications include a statement of the request, an explanation of the person’s circumstances, the name and age of the applicant. Some applications include supporting documentation. Many times, the applications contain notes written by someone in the office of Der Aelteste der Juden in Litzmannstadt including notes about the applicant, the decision regarding whether they should be accepted and reasoning behind that decision.
