[Applications for placement in old age homes] (ID: 27455)

Description:
This grouping contains applications for placement in old age homes run by the Judenrat in Łódź. Most of the applications include correspondence written by the applicant to Der Aelteste der Juden in Litzmannstadt requesting that they be placed into a nursing home. Many of the applicants were unable to support themselves and either did not want to be a burden on their family or had no one to care for them. The applications include a statement of the request, an explanation of the person’s circumstances, the name and age of the applicant. Some applications include supporting documentation such as doctor’s notes, financial statements, references, and letters from family members. Many times, the applications contain notes written by someone in the office of Der Aelteste der Juden in Litzmannstadt including notes about the applicant, the decision regarding whether they should be accepted and reasoning behind that decision.
