This roster names the personnel of each construction company (stroitelna rota) of the 5th Labor Battalion, according to the dates on which the men reported to duty. Most of those listed had reported during the first week of May 1941. Home towns were also given. The 1st Construction Company included ethnic Bulgarians along with ethnic Turks and/or Pomaks, according to the names. All eight men of the Domestic (domakinstva) or Housekeeping Company were ethnic Bulgarians. A Road and Bridge Company (putno-mostova rota) was composed mainly of ethnic Turks and/or Pomaks, with some ethnic Bulgarians. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Construction Companies, comprising the bulk of the 5th Labor Battalion, appear to have been made up exclusively of Jews, as determined by the men's names. These Jews were drawn heavily from Sofia, Varna, and Ruse, with some from Shumen and Silistra.
