Oakes of Army Film Unit talking to two Hungarian Jewish women, sitting by barbed wire and cooking lunch. Same survivors with soldier (now crouched down) with bowls of soup, intimate composition. Long row of women at communal taps, all scrubbing, cleaning clothes, filling buckets. Bucolic, springtime farming scene: cows, cottages, flowering trees, sunshine streaming through. House in Belsen village. MS of local hausfrau sitting with two children in garden, plays with her baby while young girl plays with a ball.
Biography / History:
1991.251.1 The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum purchased this collection of film segments about the liberation of Belsen from the Imperial War Museum in London in March 1991.
