Tanks reach the downtown area and secure vital buildings and traffic centers. English ammunition was found on this man. On orders from the Fuehrer, Lieutenant General Stahel, bearer of the sword, was charged with putting down the uprising in Warsaw. Light flak takes out an observation post on a tower. SS units armed with anti-tank weapons are deployed, as well. The mop-up operation proceeds quickly in every part of the city. The German leadership orders the local population to be transported out of the city in order to prevent excessive casualties.

On August 1, 1944, the Armia Krajowa (Polish Home Army) launched an uprising in Warsaw against the German occupiers. Although the Western allies dropped ammunition and supplies and the Soviet army was within sight of the city, the uprising was crushed.
