{1}Return to text The SS (Schutztaffel), protection squads formed in 1925, became the personal bodyguard of Adolf Hitler and grew into the mot powerful organization within the Nazi party and the Nazi State under the leadership of Heinrich Himmler.
{2}Return to text Bernstein served until 1942 in the Treasury Department. He then was commissioned into the U.S. Army at the urging of the Secretary of the Treasury. He would eventually serve as the chief of the Finance Section of SHAEF G-5 and with OMGUS as the Director of the Division of Decartilization and External Assets.
