REMARKS BY BRAD BLAKEMAN
Survivors, families, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen. I bring you greetings from the President of the United States and Mrs. Bush.
Over the years, the Bush family has maintained close personal ties to this Museum and to the cause and mission of remembrance. Never again are not mere words. They stand as a firm commitment of this administration.
President George W. Bush spoke these words at this place on April 16, 2001:
“This is not like any other Museum. It bears witness to the best and to the worst of the human heart. The images stay with you. And only by confronting them can we begin to grasp the enormity of the Holocaust. In places like this the evidence has been kept. Without it, we might forget the past, and we might neglect the future. And we must never forget. We must always remember both the cruelty of the guilty and the courage and innocence of their victims.”
Many of the innocent gather here today, to give thanks to life and in remembrance of lives so prematurely taken from this earth.
The higlight of my life will always be the days I served as a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. We made a difference in our time and for all time, and for that I will always be grateful.
