I'm looking for information regarding my father's family who left Heilbronn, Germany in 1936. My father, Max Meyer, was 15 years old at the time. His father, Emil Meyer, was a lawyer and the son of Max Meyer the banker of Heilbronn. His mother's name was Margot Anne Meyer (Maiden: Mainz). She came from a Jewish family in Poland. Emil was not Jewish. My father was raised in the Jewish faith and was Bar Mitzvahed in 1933. He never spoke about this. My mother told me he was sent to the U.S. alone in 1936 and his older sister, Joan, was sent to England. All of them eventually ended up in the US.

I'm particularly interested in finding out what happened to my father after arriving at Ellis Island. I was told he went somewhere in Wisconsin. In exchange for becoming a naturalized citizen, he enlisted in the US Army, was located somewhere near Lincoln, Nebraska, and was taught English before being shipped back to Europe. In the army he served as a translator, MP and drove a jeep for officers. I'd like to talk to anyone who knew him during this time, or to read the story of anyone of a similar age or circumstance.

He is a Holocaust Survivor who stopped practicing his religion, married an American, and raised me as a Protestant. I'd like to connect with other first-generation survivors who were not raised in the Jewish faith. Thank you very much.

My greatgrandfather, was a survivor, but I do not believe his wife was. Other family members as well. I am searching to connect with lost family. My great grandfather now deaceased his name was Isreal Winik, his wife's name was Sara, also my grandmother Rose her family last name prounounced as " pick -us" but I do not think that is the accurate spelling, it could be " Picus". So I am looking for " Isreal Winik, and Picus families. Isreal's son's my Pop Pop will not even speak of any of this, and is very old now and does not want to recall any info. So I ask for help here. Isreal Winik's son was named David Lee Winik, My father, Alan Lee Winik and his sister Janice. I believe Isreal also had a son named Samuel as well. He is now passed on. When I was a little girl my grandparents lived in Pikesville, MD in Baltimore county. Orginally, Isreal Winik and Sara were from Kiev, I believe. The Picus's I am not sure where they were from orginally. I know Rose ( my Granma) had a sister but I do not know her name. If anyone can help, or direct me to information, or know of anything to help me connect to and understand correct history of what seems to painful for my father to talk about, and his father to talk of. I would be so grateful.
Love,Peace& Respect, Rebecca Lee Winik
