Herbert (“Herb”) Robinson
Herbert (“Herb”) Robinson learned a valuable lesson at a young age: Do not stand idly by when others are in need. Growing up during the Depression, he observed his parents-who themselves had very little money-vigorously supporting a number of charities.
While a student at the City College of New York, Herb read about Abraham Lincoln, who influenced him tremendously and inspired him to study law. He graduated from Harvard Law School and focused his practice on commercial bribery and embezzlement cases. An ardent bibliophile, he has a private library of 50,000 volumes and enjoys studying genealogy.
Following his parents' example, Herb has been involved in many charitable organizations, including his alma maters, and is a dedicated supporter of the Museum and its mission. Unable to understand how people could commit the atrocities they did in the Holocaust, he says, "It is simply unacceptable, and we must perpetuate the memories of those who perished." He is deeply proud that one of his daughters plays an active role in Holocaust Remembrance Day in Belfast, Ireland.
Like his parents, Herb does not stand idly by. He chose to establish a charitable gift annuity with the Museum, providing him with a fixed annuity during his lifetime while designating the remainder for the Museum's Endowment Fund, which will help ensure that the Museum is able to continue its work for generations to come. True to his promise to perpetuate the memory of the Holocaust, Herb chose to honor those who perished in Bialystok-the town in Poland from which his ancestors came- on the Museum's Donors Wall.
