A Day at the Museum for Families

The Next Generation Board hosted a special daylong event at the Museum on January 13, 2013, for parents and their children. Participants explored the history of the Holocaust as they toured both the Permanent Exhibition and special exhibition Remember the Children: Daniel’s Story and took part in special programming designed especially for families.

Projections of Life: An Evening at the Museum

Projections of Life: An Evening at the Museum

The Next Generation Board, together with the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and NEXT DC, hosted an evening event at the Museum on October 10, 2012. The program featured selections from the Museum’s Steven Spielberg Film and Video Archive’s collection of home movies, providing a rare intimate glimpse into the everyday lives of European Jews before the devastation of the Holocaust.

Private Screening of La Rafle with Actress Mélanie Laurent and Director Rose Bosch

The Next Generation welcomed actress Mélanie Laurent and director Rose Bosch on July 18, 2012, for a private screening of La Rafle and a discussion with the audience. The film is based on the true story of the infamous Vel’ d’Hiv Roundup of 1942, in which more than 13,000 people were arrested, consigned to Paris’s Velodrome d’Hiver stadium, and then deported to internment camps within France and finally to Auschwitz.

Advance Screening of In Darkness with Director Agnieszka Holland

The Next Generation welcomed award-winning director Agnieszka Holland on January 18, 2012, for an advance screening of her latest film, In Darkness, and a discussion with the audience. Based on a true story, In Darkness dramatizes the story of a sewer worker and petty thief who rescues Jewish refugees in Nazi-occupied Lvov.

Advance Screening of Sarah's Key with Director Gilles Paquet-Brenner

On July 19, 2011, award-winning screenwriter and director Gilles Paquet-Brenner joined the Next Generation at the Museum for an advance screening of his film Sarah’s Key and a discussion with the audience. The film is based on Tatiana de Rosnay's New York Times best-seller and stars Kristin Scott Thomas and Aidan Quinn.

The Power of Film and the Holocaust: An Evening with Ralph Fiennes and Bob Woodward

In January 2010, the Washington, DC, Next Generation welcomed actor Ralph Fiennes, star of several Holocaust-related films, for a fascinating conversation with acclaimed reporter Bob Woodward on the impact of his performances. The event was chaired by board member Adam Falkoff.

Washington, DC, Premiere of Inheritance

The Next Generation premiered the Holocaust documentary Inheritance by Academy and Emmy Award–winning filmmaker James Moll in December 2008. Afterward Moll and survivor Helen Jonas, who was featured in the film, joined us for an engaging discussion. The event was chaired by board member Shelley Hymes.
