GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION:The Comforty collection of oral histories is in two categories: those collected in order to tell the story of how Bulgarian Jewry survived the Holocaust and those collected in the context of other projects on the Holocaust. The latter category is general in nature and arises mostly out of the video and audio programs produced for the St. Louis Holocaust Museum.

Most oral histories were conducted in formal settings. However, individuals were also interviewed on the street in Bulgaria, Israel, and Spain when the occasion arose. In addition, family members were also interviewed in more informal settings.

The oral histories amount to about 120 hours of videoed and filmed interviews with more than 100 people. Those conducted in Israel, comprising some 54 hours, are housed at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. The remainder, some 65 hours, are housed at Comforty Media Concepts.
