GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:Brookdale Community College is located in the Lincroft section of Middletown Township, New Jersey. The College offers associate (two-year) degrees in over 50 programs, and Bachelor degrees through partnerships with other New Jersey colleges/universities through the Communiversity program. The College is also home to the Center for Holocaust Studies. Opened in 1979, the Center is an outgrowth of the efforts of several academic staff members who had offered popular on-campus Holocaust programs up until that time.

The mission of the Center for Holocaust Studies is to be a resource for: education about historical issues of the Holocaust and genocide; elimination of racism, antisemitism and all forms of prejudice that damage our society; and development of programs and activities regarding these issues. Activities center on raising consciousness about the Holocaust as a catastrophic example of ruthless power, racism and violence, and on the study and condemnation of other genocides throughout the world. The Center's mission is to safeguard the future through remembrance of, and education about, the past.

The Center’s library contains almost 4000 books about the Holocaust, genocide and related topics as well as an extensive collection of articles, monographs, booklets and reprints. There is also a video collection containing over 600 videotapes, DVD’s, and CD-ROMS.

OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION:An oral history project relating to the Holocaust was conducted by the Center between 1980 and 1995, resulting in some 50 interviews, most of which are on videotape. The interviewees were local survivors, users of the Center, or attendees to its programs. Some interviews were conducted with amateurs operating home-video cameras. The bulk of the interviews have been held at a state-of-the-art video studio, with professional staff.
