| GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: | The purpose of the Beth Ahabah Museum and Archives is the collection, preservation, and exhibition of material which relates to Jewish history and culture in the Richmond region. The archival activity began in 1962 through the efforts of Fred Windmueller, the first archivist, himself a refugee from Germany prior to WWII.
The core of the collection is the congregational documents of Beth Shalome and Beth Ahabah. There are also genealogies, Civil War correspondence, immigration papers, over 1000 photographs from rare ambrotypes to contemporary snapshots, and a wide variety of ritual objects from Kiddush cups to Hannukah menorahs. There is also a selective Holocaust-related collection. |

| OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION: | The Beth Ahabah Museum and Archives has produced 11 interviews on audio and 13 interviews on video tape with some members of its congregation in the Richmond area. Some interviews are Holocaust-related, some not. Interviews were conducted at two different times – from 1970-1976, and later in the early 1980’s. |
