GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:The Dorot Jewish Division of the New York Public Library is one of the most extensive collections of Judaica in the world and is accessible for both scholarly and personal use.

OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION:The Dorot Jewish Division of the New York Public Library holds the oral history collection of the American Jewish Committee (AJC). These interviews were collected between 1970 and 1990. It is not an ongoing project. The Holocaust Survivor portion of this collection represents about ten percent of the AJC Oral History Collection.

This major project, made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, comprises 250 interviews with survivors of the Holocaust and family members. Accounts of their wartime experiences, their adaptation to life in the United States and the effects of the Holocasut on their children are the principal foci of the study.
