GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:The Bay Area Holocaust Oral History Project (BAHOHP) is one of the oldest independent non-profit organizations of its kind in the country. Since 1981, they have collected, preserved, and put to use life history interviews of survivors and witnesses to the Holocaust.

OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION:To date, the BAHOHP archive consists of more than 1,600 audio and video interviews with survivors, emigres, liberators, rescuers, resisters, and many others. Documents, transcriptions, and informational materials such as photographs and letters accompany these interviews. While the majority of the more than 5,000 hours of recorded history are in English, some are also in Russian (90), Polish (18), German (7), French (4), Yiddish (3), and Hebrew (3).

A collection of user copies of tapes and transcripts is available for public use and dissemination. Clinets include individuals in need of primary sources for research as well as educational and genealogical purposes. Since BAHOHP formed an alliance with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) several years ago, tapes are duplicated and sent to Washington DC to be incorporated into USHMM's collection.
