GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:The archive/ documentation center collects written reports for the years between 1925 and 1945, as well as interviews for this period.

OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION:Since 1988, the Documentation Center for National Socialism of the City of Cologne has produced interviews with witnesses of national socialism concentrating on what occurred in Cologne.

The goal is to not only to archive the audiotape interviews, but also to transcribe them and make them available to users in both formats.

In total, about 1300 interviews were produced. Approximately 180 interviews with Jewish witnesses from Cologne have been conducted, approximately 320 with forced (slave) laborers who had been deployed in Cologne, as well as interviews with: politically oppressed; Sinti and Roma; homosexuals; those who had been forcibly sterilized; functionaries; collaborators; members of the police; members of the Hitler Youth and the Association of German Girls (Bund der Deutschen Maedchen). Often, the interviews were conducted in connection with a special book or exhibition.

A great part of these interviews have not been evaluated or made accessible through key words. The accessibility for those interested in these interviews is somewhat complicated and possible only after consultation with academic colleagues.

About 300 of the interviews with forced laborers are viewable in written form, as well as about 50 interviews with Jewish witnesses and another 100 from diverse categories.
