GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:The Terezin Memorial was established in 1947 in the Small Fortress in Terezin where a Gestapo prison existed during World War II.

At present, the Memorial is an institution which, as a museum, commemorates the victims of the Nazi political and racial persecution and pursues research and educational activities.

OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION:A great part of the oral history collection was created in the years 1992-1993 as part of the project "Memory" of the the Memorial Terezin and the Terezin Initiative, an organization of the former prisoners of the ghetto Terezin. These interviews were produced mostly by university students with former prisoners or the ghetto Terezin. They include not only information about the time of the imprisonment but also about life before and after the war.

The rest of the collection was produced on an occassional basis by historians of the Terezin Memorial. This includes, above all, testimonies of the former prisoners of the ghetto Terezin. Several interviews were conducted with former prisoners of the Gestapo police prison in the Small Fortress and an insignificant number with prisoners of other places of Nazi persecution.

The entire collection is on audio cassettes and is in the Czech language.
