GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:Centre D'Histoire de la Résistance et de la Deportation was opened in October 1992 in Lyon in a building formerly occupied by the Gestapo.

The mission of the Centre is to keep the memory alive of those who suffered from the barbarous treatment of the Nazis. In addition, it aims to heighten awareness and stimulate reflection on the issues and events surrounding the Nazi occupation. The Centre's goal is to reach as wide a public as possible, particularly the younger generation.

In the permanent exhibition gallery a wide variety of audiovisual and iconographic material highlights France during the Occupation: "the French State" and its collaboration policy, the resistance, deportation and liberation.

OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION:One of the Centre's projects is the collection of testimonies of often unknown witnesses. The video library also holds a collection of documentary films and numerous testimonies made by members of the resistance and/or deportees compiled by the History Centre since 1990.
