GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:The Arquivo Històrico Judaico Brasileiro is a non-profit organization founded in 1976 in Sao Paulo by a group of professors and scholars as a center for preserving documents, photographs, objects and studies concerning the Jews of Brazil.

OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION:The Oral History Division of the Arquivo Històrico Judaico Brasileiro started a project in 1992 using oral testimonies to retrace the story of Jewish immigrants who arrived in Sao Paulo at different moments and for various reasons, to show how they preserved their Judaism and were integrated into the Brazilian community. The project covers the entire Jewish community of Sao Paulo.

The Oral History Collection consists of almost 400 taped interviews, mostly of first generation immigrants. Of these, some are with Holocaust survivors. The organization focuses on Jewish immigration to Sao Paulo in general, and inasmuch as some survivors are in this category, they were also interviewed.

There is no catalogue, but there is a two-volume book published called "Historias de Vida; Imigracio Judaica No Rio Grande Do Sul" (Life Stories; Jewish Immigration in Rio Grande do Sul). In this book, there are some excerpts of interviews with Holocaust survivors There is also a list of all interviewees, included with this report, which represent the Holocaust-related interviews that were conducted as part of the project.
