GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:A federal institute in Belgium, the Centre d'Estudes et de Documentation Guerre et Sociétés Contemporaines (CEGES) organizes seminars, colloquia, and frequently collaborates with universities and scientific institutes in Belgium and abroad. The CEGES collection principally is concerned with the period from 1914 to the 1960's, with particular emphasis on the years of war. The mission of the institute is two-fold. On the one hand, it is a center for research; on the other, as an institution it is a service for the general public, researchers and the media.

CEGES research teams have explored various themes such as a study on "The plunder of Jewish assets" and "What impact the burden of memories from 1914-1918 had on the Resistance between 1940-1945".

OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION:CEGES has several testimonies about World War II in its collection; however, very few are Holocaust related. The Centre has produced seven original audio interviews with Holocaust survivors and ten video interviews. These interviews are with people living in Belgium and transported to Germany during World War II. Neither audio nor video interviews have been transcribed. Other Holocaust-related video holdings include various programs that have been recorded from television broadcasts.

The Centre can be contacted by email, fax and telephone to request more information about the holdings. For some of the interviews the director of the Centre must grant permission for them to be used.
