GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:The Terezin Foundation was formed to produce and distribute films about the Terezin ghetto.

OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION:The Terezin Foundation interviews were shot on 16 mm. film and transferred to video. They were conducted by the director Zuzana Justman (herself a survivor) for use in two documentary films.

"Terezin Diary" is a 90-minute film which gives a history of the ghetto, covers many aspects of life in Terezin and has a section on the Terezin family camp in Auschwitz. "Terezin Diary" film out-takes are deposited at the Brandeis National Film Center and video transfers of all footage are deposited at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

"Voices of the Children" is an 80-minute film which tells the stories of three people who passed through Terezin when they were children. They all kept diaries and made drawings in the camp. One of them, Helga Weissova-Hoskova, made one hundred drawings in Terezin which have all been preserved. Video transfers of all "Voices of the Children" itnerviews are deposited at the Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies at Yale University.

The interviews are mainly Czech Jews (17 in all) who were deported to Terezin as young adults or children, as well as five of the survivors' children. The interviews cover the survivors' life before the war, their war experiences, (life wearing a yellow star, Terezin -- its history, self-government -- children's lives, arts and culture, Brundibar, Red Cross visit, deportation to Auschwitz, other camps, liberation) and in the case of the three protagonists of "Voices of the Children", life after the war to the present and the effect of the Holocaust on the survivors and their families. Three diaries and many drawings are an important part of the film. Five of their children are interviewed for this film as well. The interviews are highly detailed and personal.
