| GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: | The Fort Wayne Jewish Federation seeks to embody the core tradition of the Tzedakah: righteousness and social justice. The organization is over 80 years old. It has been a champion of civil rights in the area, working through its members and Community Relations Committee (CRC). The Fort Wayne Jewish Federation is a co-sponsor of the United Way's Task Force to Undo Racism, and has been involved in these activities with many other organizations in the area.
The Federation receives support from the United Way of Allen County to support Holocaust education as a means of reducing and eliminating prejudice in the community. The Federation sponsors school convocations, exhibits and teacher training institutes and mentoring.

| OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION: | The Fort Wayne Jewish Federation's initial work in recording the lives and memories of Holocaust survivors came about after the 1987 Anne Frank exhibit. In the years that followed, a team was assembled and a documentary featuring the survivors in Fort Wayne was created with the assistance of Indiana University's Dr. Alvin Rosenfeld.
The collection includes interviews with survivors who now live in Fort Wayne.
Vivian Lansky, Carol Sandler and Betty Stein conducted the interviews. The interviews were then assembled and edited. The raw tape footage is still available. The 55 minute video is available through the Federation for $10.00 per copy. |
