| OVERVIEW OF ORAL HISTORY COLLECTION: | Note: Information in this section is approximately 13 years old, taken from the book "A Catalog of Audio and Video Holocaust Testimony" 2nd edition, compiled by Joan Ringelheim (Greenwood Press; New York) 1992.
The Yaffa Eliach Collection was established in 1974. In 1991, it was deposited with the Museum of Jewish Heritage. Between 1974 - 1991 there were approximately 100 - 200 interviews per year. Interviewees included Jews, Gentiles who helped Jews, political prisoners, resistance members, partisans, refugees, liberators, UNRAA personnel, and displaced persons camps personnel.
Interviews were conducted in English, German, Hebrew, Polish, Russian, and Yiddish. Interviewers were oral history specialists, Holocaust survivors, and historians. Training was offered for interviewers. A formal interview schedule was used.
As of October 2, 1990, there were 3000 interviews in the collection on either audio cassette or video tape (either VHS or 3/4). Approximately 300 interviews of the collection are transcribed. With special permission, transcripts can be photocopied. These transcriptions are indexed. There are printed summaries of the interviews or transcriptions in the card catalog. The collection is a member of RLIN. |
