Mr. Istvan Pal Adam

The Center welcomes 2012–13 Tziporah Wiesel Fellowship Mr. Istvan Pal Adam

Mr. Adam is currently a PhD candidate in History at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom. He holds an M.A. from Central European University in History and Jewish studies. Prior to pursuing his doctorate, Mr. Adam was a Walter Benjamin Fellow at the Paideia European Institute for Jewish Studies in Stockholm from 2009 to 2010. He also worked as a part time researcher for a project on Czech and Slovak Anti-Semitism with the Prague Jewish Museum and as a Holocaust Compensation Officer in the Compensation Department of the Hungarian Ministry of Justice. In 2012 he was the recipient of an EHRI (European Holocaust Research Infrastructure) fellowship at Yad Vashem. His research concentrates on the role of an especially powerful group of ordinary Hungarians in the Hungarian Holocaust.

Mr. Adam has language skills in Hungarian, English, and Polish and has basic Hebrew knowledge.

For his Tziporah Wiesel Fellowship, Mr. Adam will be researching “‘Bystanders’ to Genocide? The Role of Building Managers in the Hungarian Holocaust.”
