An American soldier inspects piles of Nazi schoolbooks.

The Allies viewed the German educational system as one of the cornerstones of Nazi propaganda. To prevent the further corruption of German youth, they closed down all German public schools, removed Nazi textbooks, and purged the teaching profession.
