This knapsack was taken by a partisan after an ambush of German soldiers in a forest near Ejszyszki (Eisiskes), south of Vilna. After the war, the former partisan kept it with him during his emigration from eastern Europe, his detention by the British on Cyprus, and his emigration to Israel. He donated it to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1991.
