BLANKET FROM SACHSENBERG PSYCHIATRIC ASYLUM

The wool blanket shown here is from the Sachsenberg psychiatric asylum in Schwerin. The name of the asylum and the date "1932" are embroidered on the blanket. Beginning in 1939, Sachsenberg participated in the killing of physically or mentally impaired patients. Hitler ordered the killings to rid the country of those people referred to in Nazi propaganda as "life unworthy of life".
