I began my search for Gitla based upon oral testimony by her older sister, Rose (Raca) Szaldajewski Koslowski. In her testimony, Rose spoke of her twin sisters, Prevan (Priwa) and Genia (Gitla). Having done the research on Priwa, I used that date of birth to locate Gitla in the Lodz Ghetto Inhabitants Lists. They obviously shared the same birthday (12 April 1927) and the same ghetto addresses. Other evidence confirming Gitla's identity: she was of the appropriate age for attending Schoo #9B (girls born between 1925 and 1931).

Sadly, Rose believes that both Gitla and Priwa were murdered at Auschwitz. They were separated from her into the other line upon arrival and she never saw them again.
