For Elek Blocher I found Elek Blacher born in 1934.

He appears twice in the Lodz Ghetto Inhabitants-Supplementary Volume 5 as Elek Balcher born 1934 and lived at Hanseat 24 6 and Neustadt 31.

He  then appears twice as Elek Kaczka born 1934 and living at the same aforementioned addresses as well as a ghetto note of PRZ 3.5.43. Under Elek Kaczka he has the ghetto note of ABG 22.6.42.

I agree that these are the same person, and I'm also curious about the Kaczka name. What do you think the dates mean? I look forward to seeing if we can untangle this mystery in the next stages!

Okay, I found Chana Laja Blacher born 1903 living at the same address as Elek. She had a ghetto note of WYM 21.6.42 Hanseat 24, then she appears as Chana Laja Blacher Kaczka with a ghetto note of Nuestadt 31 PRZ 3.5.43. I also found Abram Icchok Kaczka boen 15/5/1900 living at the same addresses and with the similar move dates. There was also Dwojra Kaczka born 1932 and she died on 5/01/1943. She had the same address and similar ghettto notes. I'm led to believe that Abram and Dwojra are Elek's father and sister.

I also found Dwojra Blacher born 1900 living at Neustadt 31 19 and Nord and she was deported on TR 6/2. Also there was Tauba b. 1876 and deported from Nord 9 on TR 6/2. I'm guessing that Dwojra may have been an aunt or possibly another family member.

I also found on Yad Vashem a page of testimony for Chana Kaczka. It states she was born in 1903 to ELIAHU and TAIBA BLIKHER and that she was married to AVRAHAM YITZKHAK KACZKA. I'm pretty certain this is the same Chana that appears in the Lodz ghetto lists. http://www.yadvashem.org/wps/portal/!ut/p/_s.7_0_A/7_0_2KE/.cmd/acd/.ar/sa.portlet.FromDetailsSubmitAction/.c/6_0_1L5/.ce/7_0_2KI/.p/5_0_2E6?related_key=&DTsearchQuery=&todo=2&images=%5B%2F05031121_174_2904%2F69.jpg%5D&imagedescs=%5B%2F05031121_174_2904%2F69.jpg%5D&itemid=449700&q1=LooCVHfQA7c%3D&q2=fMbu5JSlNiMwII9ZHIxbNoSBU2EZz3d3XGW26orGlBI%3D&q3=wesSg80Tqbs%3D&q4=wesSg80Tqbs%3D&q5=Lwpv4onPbjY%3D&q6=6%2BJINVH06qg%3D&q7=KHWtNZFQbxi80BUCzMujVSUtDEhVJnxY&npage=&zoomdesc=&victim_details_name=+Kaczka+Chana&fromSearch=yes&victim_details_id=449700&imagenum=0&searchfor=1

Wow is right! I agree with your conjectures and your expert reviewer's reading of the data. I'm very curious now about when children (or record-keepers?) used mothers' surnames vs. fathers' surnames--I wonder if we've seen more of these instances in the research, or will see more soon.
