User Comments:

I'm updating my research on M. Szapira. I've decided to label the students as A, B, and C.

A.) Maria Hinka Szapira was born on 13/06/1920 making her a little older than what's usual for Gymnasium and high school for girls but she does give her occupation as Schueler. She lived at Brunnen 10 and Pfeffer 6 flat 1 and she was deported with TR 2.

B.) Mariem Ruchla Szpiro was born on 03/01/1926 and she lived at Gnesen 26 and she moved to Cranach 19 on 24/12/1942.

C.) Mariem Szpiro was born in 1927 and she lived at Belchatow and Pfeffer 22 flat 31. She had a note of 16/08/1942 and she appears also as Marjem Szpiro and a move date of 25/06/1944 to Muhl 28. She also appears with the last name of Macherbomcka. I also blieve that Belchatow isn't a ghetto address but a town in Poland meaning she probably originated from Belchatow, Poland. if my theory about her being from Belchatow is correct, then perhaps she came to the ghetto on 16/08/1942. I did research and in August of 1942 the ghetto in Belchatow was closed and the inhabitants were sent either to Lodz or Chelmno. This means that if she didn't get to the ghetto untill 1942 then she probably didn't sign the albumn.

I agree that any of these students might have signed the album, though I also agree with your conjecture about Mariem Szpiro b. 1927--if she did not come to the ghetto until August 1942, she could not have signed the album. Do you think we should take her out of the possible candidates? If we do, I'd still like you to enter the section of your comment about her into the discussion box for this student name, so that we have a record of the Belchatow move (perhaps also something in the Community Center so other users can more readily find it?). Thanks!
