User Comment:

ALTERMIETER was found in addition to the address above.

***How I decided this was the individual in questions:  This individual was the only male whose date of birth fell within the range for School #20B.***

I agree you have found the student who most likely signed this name in the album. In 1941 he would have been 13 years old, the right age to attend School #20b.

Altermieter, we believe, is a note that refers to where someone lived before and after the creation of the ghetto. In this case, the note means that Majer and his family lived at Pfeffergasse 11 18 before the ghetto was established, and were still living there when this record was taken (presumably after 1940). Best of luck in the next stages.

User Comment:

As advised by the expert researcher, I added Chelmno as place of death.

According to the Timeline of Transport and Prisoner Registration of Lodz ghetto Jews, the daily deportations in March of 1942 resulted in death of the Jews in March's tranportation of more that 24,500.  These Jews were killed in gas vans.  The exact date of death is unknown at this time but is it possible to assume that the date of death was the same day as deportation? (This information was obtained by the information in Secondary Source)

I believe that they lived with their grandmother Perel Chaja Aleksandrowicz (DOB 1866) because she has the same address as Abram Mendel Aleksandrowicz, Majer Sender Aleksandrowicz, Godel Aleksandrowicz, and Hena Aleksandrowicz of Pfeffer 11 18.  But unlike his grandmother and his bother Abraham Mendel Aleksandrowicz, Majer Sender Aleksandrowicz has the notation ALTERMIETER (the other two have PIEPRZOW 10).

Since his sibling, Godel (who were transported on the same date as Majer) has the same transportation date as him as well as the transportation number 19, I assume that Majer was on transport number 19.

Excellent work on this stage. I appreciate your very thorough process note. Thank you for helping to complete Majer's record.

Be careful about assuming anything in this history--without a known transport number, we cannot list it as Majer's.
