School #23 was a school for girls and boys in Lodz. Students were between 8 and 20 years old (most were 9-14), meaning that they were born between 1921 and 1933.
School #23 was located at Ulica Jagiellonska 16. The street name was changed to Bertholdstrasse when German occupation began in 1939. You can read more about Ulica Jagiellonska and the rest of the Lodz Ghetto at

User Comment:
The student signed her name "B. Apelson." The student I found is named Nachama Brojna Apelzon. Perhaps the child went by Bronja, hence the initial "B." Apelzon and Apelson are two different ways to spell the same name.

I agree you've found the person who signed this name in the album. Thank you for correcting the spelling of her middle name.

User Comment:
Nachama Brojna Apelzon, Icek Lajb Apelzon, and Liba Apelzon all share the same ghetto addresses, as well as the same deportation date. One can conclude all three are related, whether the individuals be daughter, father, and mother, respectively, or some other relative (uncle, aunt etc.) Based on the date of birth of the Icek and Liba, it is possible (mathematically) they are Nachama's parents.). Because all three were deported to Chelmno, as suggested by the date of deportation, we can assume none survived.

I agree that you have found Nachama Brojna's parents. You may also list Chelmno as her place of death, citing the secondary sources. Thank you for helping complete Nachama's record.
