Reunion of Ukrainian child survivors of Auschwitz

    Overview

    Description
Reunion of child survivors, now adults, of Auschwitz concentration camp (this appears to be taking place during the 1960s). VS, CUs, faces of men and women as they greet each other again for the first time since their time spent together in the concentration camp. VS, scenes of liberation of orphaned children (back in the 1940s). Children on buses, leaving the camps and being sent to new lives after the war. In Kiev, a large group of child survivors process to an eternal flame and place flowers and wreaths around this flame in a public plaza in Kiev (in the 1960s again). The camera pans the faces of many present, they are all adults now, some have brought their own children with them to this memorial.

    Translation:
[Ukrainian narration. Abrupt start mid sentence] prisoners of Auschwitz. They remember everything: their parents' death, gas chambers, torture with electric wires. And they remember the miracle - the day of liberation.

[Russian voices of people. A woman's voice.] For 20 years we haven't seen each other.

[Again a woman's voice is asking a man] "How are you?" [A man replies] "I am fine, thank you."

[Ukrainian narration proceeds.] Twenty-five years ago they were repatriated back to their homeland, to Kyiv. The homeland had returned to them their childhood. And these are the same children after a quarter of a century. How wonderful it must be - to have a feeling of being a family. Once again on the Victory Day they pledged allegiance to their Homeland; gave honor to soldiers - all this in the name of peace in the world.
