Overview
- Description
- A protest and march organized by the International Peace Campaign demanding that Britain take action against Germany if they seize the Sudetenland. The clips are out of chronological order. The first scene shows a large crowd in Trafalgar square. A banner reads: "Stand by Czechoslovakia! No plebiscite!" The camera pans across the huge crowd. The next shots show the protesters marching toward Downing Street; the framing of the shots is uneven. Some of the protesters hold their fists aloft and some carry signs. According to the dope sheet, the procession was turned back before it could reach 10 Downing Street. The marchers were directed back to Trafalgar square, where violence broke out, but this is not shown in these outtakes. Back at Trafalgar square, Ellen Wilkinson, a Labour M.P., speaks to the crowd. Lord Meston, the leader of the Liberal Party in the House of Lords, speaks also speaks. Some of their words are discernible, but the sound is very bad. More, and better, shots of the protesters marching down the street, accompanied by police on horseback. Some of them carry flags, among them American, British, and Czechoslovakian.
