US intervention

I know in the past the United States has not intervened to stop genocide because of things going on domestically or otherwise at the time the genocide is happening. To what extent has US involvement in Iraq interfered with US policy regarding Darfur, and how can the US balance its commitment to Iraq with working to stop genocide in Darfur? I think that the United States and the rest of the world have a responsibility to do something, it is morally wrong to do nothing, but what are realistic steps we can take to stop the genocide in Darfur?

I personally believe that the United States, with all of our privledge and resources, has the responsibility to help out countries in need. One of the main problems we are faced with now though, in my opinion, is asserting our influence in the world in ways that are both needed and wanted. With the current role that the Unites States is playing in Iraq and many other countries, now, more than ever, I believe that we need to be very careful how and where we intervene in foreign situations. This added pressure, however, is not a good enough excuse for America to feel as if we should not intervene in situations like genocide. It is our absolute duty to do all in our power to stop the killing of innocent people. If America starts changing our role in the international world, our reputation will change too.
