Germany's Nazi government under Adolf Hitler attempted to rid German-controlled territory of people who did not fit its vision of a hereditarily pure, "master Aryan race" and sought to eradicate homosexuality as a "contagious degeneracy." The special exhibition Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals 1933–1945 is one in a series about the lesser-known victims of the Nazi era.

In conjunction with Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals 1933–1945, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum presents three public programs exploring the experiences of the homosexual community in Germany before, during, and after World War II.
