UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM MOURNS THE LOSS OF VLADKA MEED
WASHINGTON, DC — The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum mourns the passing of its longtime friend and partner Vladka Meed, one of the most significant leaders of the Holocaust remembrance movement in the United States. A woman of remarkable courage and strength, she played a crucial role in the Warsaw ghetto resistance. Activism was a defining aspect of her entire life—in prewar Poland, during the Holocaust, and in her adopted homeland—as she always devoted herself to Jewish principles of social justice and tikkun olam. She helped establish Holocaust education in the United States, and the lives of thousands of teachers and students throughout the country were influenced by her strong vision, keen intelligence, and fierce determination. In her life, she assumed many roles as author, educator, and advocate. Her singular legacy will have an enduring impact.
