UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM STATEMENT ON CONVICTION OF JOHN DEMJANJUK
WASHINGTON, D.C. – “Sixty-five years ago, the first Nuremberg Trials established that those responsible for mass murder and other crimes against humanity would be held accountable for their actions,” says United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Director Sara J. Bloomfield. “The reverberations from Nuremberg are felt again today in the conviction of John Demjanjuk for his role in the deaths of more than 28,000 Jews. Most Nazi criminals escaped justice, and therefore it is important that the world continues to pursue the few still alive. In addition to serving the quest for justice, the trial of Demjanjuk will hopefully stand as a reminder to future perpetrators of such crimes that the passage of time will not allow them to escape punishment.”
