CHICAGOANS TO BE HONORED AT UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM’S 14TH ANNUAL RISA K. LAMBERT CHICAGO LUNCHEON

Liev Schreiber and Clay Frohman of Defiance to Speak at Largest Fundraising Event for the Nation’s Memorial to the Holocaust

CHICAGO — The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s 2009 Risa K. Lambert Chicago Luncheon will honor Chicagoans Judy and Bob Appelbaum and Marilyn Malkin and Larry Wolf for their longtime commitment to the nation’s memorial to the Holocaust. The event is being held on Monday, November 2 at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers. The Luncheon keynote speakers will be Defiance star Liev Schreiber, and the film’s screenwriter and co-producer, Clay Frohman. Director Ed Zwick will also take part via video.

The Appelbaums, Malkin and Wolf serve alongside each other as chairs and national advisors of the Museum’s Wings of Memory Society, the nationwide network of major annual donors whose gifts support the Museum’s core outreach and educational initiatives, in the Midwest Region and across the country.

“Since its inception, Chicagoans have unwaveringly supported the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and Judy and Bob Appelbaum, Marilyn Malkin and Larry Wolf have been at the forefront of that effort,” says Jill Weinberg, Director of the Museum’s Midwest Regional Office. “Through their generosity and those like them, the Museum continues to bring Holocaust education to millions in Chicago and worldwide, an increasingly urgent priority as hatred, antisemitism and Holocaust denial increase around the globe.”

The Appelbaums, Marilyn Malkin and Larry Wolf all began supporting the Museum prior to its opening with their time and philanthropy. They have continuously demonstrated their commitment to Holocaust memory and education. The Appelbaums have led congregational missions to Washington and national missions to Eastern Europe on behalf of the Museum, and both couples have hosted and planned fundraising and educational events for the Chicago area and in communities around the country.

The Risa K. Lambert Chicago Luncheon is the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s largest fundraising event, attracting 3,000 Chicagoans each year. The event, being held on Monday, November 2, at the Chicago Sheraton Hotel and Towers, provides crucial support to the work of the nation’s memorial to the Holocaust as it brings Holocaust education to millions worldwide through exhibitions, leadership training, multi-language online resources, and educational programming.

Linda and Richard Price are Co-Chairs of the luncheon and Loren and Howard Friend are the Corporate Co-Chairs.

The luncheon will be held at noon on Monday, November 2, at the Chicago Sheraton Hotel and Towers.
