Bloody Hands, 1941
This
work was displayed at the U.S. Naval Academy (1942), the Wildenstein Gallery (1944), and the Philadelphia Art Alliance (1945). Szyk seems to parody a painting by German artist Hubert Lanzinger that depicted Hitler as a knight on horseback. Here he is portrayed not as a chivalrous figure, but as a murderer who brings famine and death. Hitler is flanked by Japanese emperor Hirohito and a depiction of famine.
