Leaders

Though many of European Jewry's finest leaders were murdered early in the Holocaust, several able leaders stepped forward after the liberation and spoke on behalf of the Jewish DPs. Josef Rosensaft, Zalman Grinberg, and Samuel Gringauz all served in senior positions for their Central Committees (Rosensaft in the British zone, Grinberg and Gringauz in the U.S. zone). These leaders became untiring voices for the DPs regarding political issues and they frequently addressed the DPs at protests and gatherings. They also wrote articles for local and foreign publications and represented the DPs in discussions with the military and United Nations authorities.
