Homosexual men were seen by the Nazis as a threat to their goal of a higher birthrate. The worldwide first gay and lesbian culture and its political, social, and cultural institutions that had developed in the late twenties in Germany were destroyed immediately after Hitler’s rise to power. Between 1933-45, about 10,000 to 15,000 men were incarcerated in concentration camps. They were marked with a pink triangle.
