Typewritten Notes

Bryan’s typewritten notes corresponding to his 35mm nitrate negative film capturing night time scenes of the Jewish quarter of Warsaw on fire. This event occurred on September 16, 1939 during Rosh Hashanah (watch Bryan’s film footage under RG-60.3985 in the Film and Video catalog). The Germans deliberately chose this day to set the Jewish quarter on fire, burning and destroying more than twenty full city blocks. US Holocaust Memorial Museum, gift of Julien Bryan Archive
