Biography

Jay Ulfelder

Jay Ulfelder is an American political scientist who studies the survival and breakdown of political regimes, the dynamics of contentious collective action (e.g. protests, strikes, and riots), and the occurrence and dynamics of violent political conflict. From 2001-2011 he worked for a large government contractor as research director for the Political Instability Task Force. He currently works as an independent consultant and is a fellow at the Fund for Peace, a Washington, DC-based non-profit that works to prevent violent conflict and promote sustainable security. He is the author of Dilemmas of Democratic Consolidation: A Game-Theory Approach, a book on the breakdown of democratic regimes, as well as numerous research papers.
