Biography

Salih Mahmoud Osman

Salih Mahmoud Osman is a prominent human rights activist and lawyer from Darfur. He has provided legal representation to those who have been arbitrarily detained and tortured by the Sudanese government. He has also provided passionate advocacy for a just and sustainable peace in Darfur. He previously worked with the Amal Centre for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Survivors of Torture in Darfur. In 2005, he joined the interim national parliament as a member of the opposition where he served until 2010. His work on human rights issues has been widely recognized. In 2005, he was honored by Human Rights Watch. In 2006, he received an award from the American Bar Association and in 2007 he received the prestigious Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought from the European Parliament.
